Memories Between Earth and Sky
Carlos made "Memories Between Earth and Sky" with his mother. In staged portraits of couples and friends, the series imagines her love story with his late father, "from their first encounter to her final farewell at his grave." That love was hardly ever photographed, so the pictures start from her memories: in Carlos's words, she is "the witness to her own love story".
The photographs were taken in Saint Louis, Senegal, in 2024. On 19 April 2026, El País Semanal published the series as a photo essay with Carlos's own text. Three days later, AIPAD, The Photography Show, opened at the Park Avenue Armory in New York. In our booth D8 we showed eleven photographs from the series, together with "Right Wrong", from "Hero, Father, Friend".
