Folk Pride · Part IV: Around the clothes

Red thread, a drum, a chair, a table set against the dark. For our fourth and last visit to "Folk Pride", we look at everything around the clothes: the objects, the gestures, the music and the buildings.

Sometimes the people leave the frame altogether. Old books, a string of bells, a crucifix and a candle on a covered table: Txema lights them with the same care he gives to a shawl or a skirt.

When the people return, their hands are busy. On our cover, they wind a length of red thread. A woman reaches into a bowl on a table. A young man plays a pipe and a drum at once, and the older man beside him listens. A child kneels to look into a birdcage built like a house.

Further on, a man in red stockings holds a stringed instrument, and a drum rests beside a split pomegranate. A photograph is silent, but it can still put a sound in your head.

Then the buildings take over. Two figures, their heads wrapped in cloth, stand against carved stone. Women in black veils gather in an arched doorway. A group in black capes waits beneath a vaulted ceiling, three women pose on a stone staircase, and a rider appears over an embroidered shoulder.

This is where our visit to "Folk Pride" ends. The project itself goes on: Txema is still adding to it. The third journey continues.

The gallery is open, as always, by appointment.
